DEFORMED

The artwork is to deliver the idea of the destiny of babies that is yet to be borned. Unfortunately, out of the many new lives in a mother’s womb, there may be ones that are deformed or even reach death even before the mother gives birth and this work depicts the miserable condition. In the work there's only one embryo that is alive placed in the center, and all the others are either abnormal or deformed. I used light bulbs to represent the egg where it holds the embryo, and the background is created to represent the mothers womb. The abnormal or deformed embryos are placed in broken light bulbs to indicate that not all lives may survive in the mother’s womb. In the film, I utilized the sound effect of glass breaking, the sound of a baby paddling in the belly, heartbeat and the sound of an electrocardiograph beeping along with an eerie background sound to showcase the intensity of this mysterious environment in the mother’s tummy. The sound of a heartbeat dies down over time also represents the death of these unborn babies.
